Toronto Psychotherapists

Psychotherapists are mental health professionals similar to psychologists but with important differences. Most commonly, there are psychological issues that psychologists can deal with that a particular psychotherapist may not specialize in.

Many psychotherapists also use the same therapeutic approaches that are used by psychologists, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. However, psychotherapists cannot diagnose. In practice, it means that psychotherapists can only deal with the symptoms presented to them in session, as opposed to making an official diagnosis.

Psychotherapist Criteria

In Ontario, psychotherapists hold at least a Master's degree and are members of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Furthermore, most insurers require that a psychotherapist be supervised by a registered psychologist, in order to be fully covered.
