OCD

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a personality disorder characterized by unwanted and repetitive thoughts followed by an urge to ease their distress or do something to calm their thoughts. In order for an obsession-compulsion cycle to be considered a disorder, it would have to take up significant portions of time at the expense of important facets of your life, such as your career or marriage. In other words, it would have to cause problems in various aspects of life. If you or a loved one is experiencing these symptoms, we highly recommend to consult a psychologist.

The cause of OCD remains unknown; however, we do know that life stressors like child abuse and genetic factors are associated with OCD.

OCD Treatment

OCD is treated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and mindfulness. In more extreme cases, psychologists may recommend a medical consultation for a medication prescription as adjunctive therapy.
